Stephen Charles Smith Architects, founded in 2017, is a bespoke design studio focusing on Residential, Commercial, and Mixed-Use projects. The firm strives to create thoughtful, elegant, contemporary architecture and design with careful consideration of construction and craft.
Prior to starting his own practice, Stephen was an Architect and Project Manager at several leading architecture firms for over 10 years, including Rafael Vinoly Architects in New York City and Silver/Petrucelli + Associates in Hamden, CT. Stephen has extensive experience across a broad range of building types and scales: private residential, multi-family housing, tall buildings, retail, mixed-use, historic preservation, commercial, cultural facilities, government offices, libraries, schools and educational buildings, corporate headquarters, hotels, and furniture design.
Stephen earned a Bachelor of Architecture degree from Virginia Tech in 2009 and a Master of Science in Advanced Architectural Design from Columbia University in 2017. He is a Registered Architect in Connecticut, LEED AP, and active member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB). Stephen is an Adjunct Faculty and regular design critic at several design schools, including University of Hartford, University of New Haven, Paier College of Art, and Barnard College.
